Attacks on public education in America by extremists and culture-war peddling politicians have reached new heights (“lows” may be more apt), but they are not new. The difference today is that the attacks are intended not just to undermine public education but to destroy it.

Our community nurses provide an invaluable service to the public. As with any job however, training is of the utmost importance. Our members want the training they need to do their job well for Marylanders. Following the leadership of president Karen Pilecki the union has been working with Del. Bonnie Cullison to develop training standards and expand on existing training. The workgroup met in Del. Cullison’s Annapolis office on Tuesday September 17, 2019.The meeting included BCFPHN leadership as well as community nurses from across the state including from AFSCME and MCGEO.

Baltimore County Government held a ceremony for signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with several bargaining units representing county employees. Among them were Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees (BCFPE) and Baltimore County Federation of Public Health Nurses (BCFPHN).

Each union separately bargained with the county. BCFPE ratified their contract in late May with more than 87% of the voting membership ratifying the contract. President John Ripley discussed the specifics of the MOU with members at the annual membership meeting the day before the agreement was ratified

Dinner, drinks, and…. Ratification? That’s what was on the menu for the Baltimore County Federation of Public Health Nurses Annual Membership Meeting on the night of June 12, 2019. The meeting took place at Bowman’s restaurant in Carney, MD and featured an amazing menu of delicious eats, and great drinks among union colleagues. Before any of the food, drinks, and fellowship took place, the business of the union was first on the menu.
