Delegate Helps Nurses in Baltimore County

Baltimore county nurses including BCFPHN members met with Del. Bonnie Cullison to devise a plan for uniform training standards. The meeting was productive and expands on the work the union has been doing all year to enhance training protocol. BCFPHN will be working closely with the delegate when the legislative session begins in January.

After hours of discussion about the many problems in city/county health facilities due to lack of training, Del. Cullison proposed a legislative solution that would:

  1. require the city and counties to establish a labor/management team. The team would be tasked with developing a training plan that must be filed with the state department of health. The department will oversee the implementation and maintaining of the plan.
  2. require the plan to have certain requirements including a Defined Preceptor Program, standard procedures and protocols, transition training, etc.

Del. Cullison has asked BCFPHN to submit a list of what nurses think should be included in a comprehensive training program in the health facilities.
