BCFPHN Nurses Testify for Job Training

Karen Pilecki and members of the Baltimore County Federation of Public Health Nurses testified in Annapolis before the House of Delegates Health and Government Operations committee. They are seeking a standardization of training practices and protocols across jurisdictions throughout the state. Delegate Bonnie Cullison sponsored the legislation and worked hard for it in committee. She did received a number of co-sponsors on legislation including perennial friends of AFT-Maryland Dels. Jazz Lewis, Eric Luedtke, and Jheanelle Wilkins.

The members of the BCFPHN are calling for the Secretary of Health to convene a workgroup comprised of health professionals from local health departments across the state to do a number of tasks including designing and implementing professional development programs for staff in local health departments. President Pilecki said of her time testifying in Annapolis “it was very nice to go there and the delegates were very receptive of what we had to say. Public health is a specialty and education is needed for public health, especially with the changing needs and demographics of Baltimore county.”
